Because of the bad weather last Saturday, we had to postpone the beach clean-up.  The rain date for the beach clean-up is this coming Saturday, May 17th.  Due to the storms, the beach is really in need of cleaning before our beach party the following weekend (5/24/08). The good news is that the huge task of moving all the tons of sand was done by Walt Pioti and his son-in-law, who brought down heavy equipment to do that.  THANKS WALT!  We hope you will be able to help us.  Please wear gloves and shoes.  Rakes, shovels, and possibly chainsaws would be most helpful.  Plan to stay for lunch afterwards...All food and drinks will be provided.  We're thanking you in advance for your help.

Recent lightning strikes in the northern neck have resulted in power outages lasting between a few seconds and several hours, even though rain has been very sparse. The result of these strikes and outages is that circuit breakers can trip or surges result when appliances and/or air conditioners come back on. The WSH community is urged to take appropriate precautions: When leaving your home or camp site for an extended period of time, be sure to turn off appliances that may lead to surges and remove spoilable food provisions from your refrigerator.

At the annual WSHPOA meeting to be held October 13, 2007, we will elect officers and board members whose terms expire. At the August 4 th meeting of the Board, we will complete the Board’s slate of nominees for the four officer positions (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary) and the three Board member positions whose term will expire. As you know, we are an all volunteer community management association and there are no formal pre-requisite requirements for election to board and officer positions. It is expected that board directors attend the scheduled board meetings and the annual meeting (advance excuses are accepted), be familiar with the “Blue Book” covenants and regulations. It is always appreciated that board members attend the other scheduled community events.

The Board is always interested in having community members who show their interest in and contribute to the community. One way for new members to demonstrate their interest is their participation in one or more of our volunteer cleanup days (see the calendar). Another is to volunteer for one of our standing committees (contacting the chair listed on our web site). We have been fortunate in recent years to have a number of new members who have shown this participation be elected to the board and become members of the board committees.

If you are interested in one of the above board positions, you have several options. One is to email or talk with an officer or board member expressing your interest before the August meeting. Another is to attend the meeting (see announcements for time and place). A third is to present your nomination on the floor at the annual meeting.

The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors has issued a ban on all open fires due to the extreme dry conditions. Previous notices that burning has been banned until 4:00 p.m. have been superceded by this decision. Keep our development safe and obey the law!
