This is my last posting in the “President’s Corner.” I greatly appreciate the support I have received from members throughout my tenure. It has been my pleasure to serve our community and in the process come to know many of you through our association’s events and activities. There are many people to thank, but especially my fellow officers, board members, committee chairs, committee members and other volunteers. In my contacts with members of other associations on the Neck and in Northern Virginia, I have learned that all of us can be very proud of how we conduct our affairs. We are fortunate to have neighbors who work together to keep our community the recreation and retirement destination of the Northern Neck!

While we are a mature development whose association has functioned for 40+ years, there is ample evidence that we are a dynamic community adapting to change. Within the short time span of my three terms as President, WSH has attracted many new members and has witnessed the construction of a number of new homes occupied equally between weekenders and permanent residents. Many of our “newbees” participate in events, including our two-year old beach party and this year’s inaugural fall campground yard sale. New members have become board members, officers, committee chairs and committee members. We see them—young and old—as swimmers, kayakers, and fisher men and women in our pond, along the beach and in the creek.

I have confidence that the new President, officers and members of the board will continue to meet the challenges to our community, as well as maintain the high quality of the amenities which we all enjoy. I encourage you to participate not only in the events and activities our association sponsors, but communicate frequently with your elected representatives to expresses your views on pending issues and other matters of your concern. This web site adds a new mechanism for you to stay in touch and as always, you are welcome to attend board meetings and state your views in its property owners’ forum.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the association. I look forward to seeing you at our annual meeting in October!
